The Next World Biodiversity Congress To Be Held In Serbia

At the World Biodiversity Congress, held in the period November 24 – 27, in Colombo, Sri Lanka, several hundred scientific papers were presented at ten different sessions. The session "Business and Biodiversity" drew most attention and discussing among the scientific community and globally renowned companies, which have to do with biodiversity, as well as the sessions on "Biotechnology and Genetic Resources", "Bioinvasion and Bioenvironment; Impact of Climate Change and Biodiversity" and "Beekeeping for Sustainable Development".

One of the main results of the Institute’s participation at the Congress was the unanimous choice of Serbia to host the World Biodiversity Congress in 2015. The representatives of the Institute for Nature Conservation of Serbia, its Director, Aleksandar Dragišić and Milivoje Krvavac, expert associate presented Serbian capacities, the potential and the exceptional biodiversity. The next Congress will be organized by Global Research Foundation and the Institute for Nature Conservation of Serbia. The city of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates will host this prestigious event in 2016.

A gala dinner marked the last day of the Congress, when the special awards were given. The winner of the "Best Senior Scientific Award", according to the opinion of the Congress scientific committee, was Milivoje Krvavac, for the presentation of the scientific paper "Examples of Illegal Trade in Wildlife".
